City of Orangeburg Celebrates Milestone with Ribbon Cutting of New City Hall

Modern facility to enhance services and strengthen community engagement

ORANGEBURG, S.C. The City of Orangeburg is proud to announce the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony for its new City Hall on Wednesday, August 6 at 10AM. This state-of-the-art facility, located at 1099 Russell Street, will serve as a central hub for local government services and community engagement. City officials, community leaders, and residents are all encouraged to join in commemorating this significant achievement.

The new City Hall features updated technology, energy-efficient design, and expanded space to improve the delivery of essential services to residents and visitors. The facility will house offices for city departments, meeting spaces, and areas designed to enhance public accessibility and transparency in local government. With its modern design and functional layout, the City Hall will serve as a vital tool in enhancing public accessibility and transparency in local government.

“We are excited to open the doors to our new City Hall, which represents the city’s continued growth, commitment to public service, and dedication to providing a modern, accessible space for residents and businesses alike. We will better serve our community by streamlining municipal operations and promoting a welcoming environment,” said Mayor Michael C. Butler. “City Hall is not just a building; it is a testament to our ongoing investment in the future of Orangeburg and the people who make this community great.”

The current location of City Hall, in use since 1927, is a shared space with the historic Stevenson Auditorium, a meticulously restored civic auditorium that offers a variety of events. The auditorium can accommodate up to 588 guests. The old City Hall shared space was an estimated 6,000 sq ft; the new City Hall will be approximately 17,000 sq ft in space. Continuous renovations are planned for the old space to enhance the Stevenson Auditorium for civic engagement.

"We are honored to partner with the City of Orangeburg on this adaptive reuse project. Transforming an existing downtown structure into a modern, functional hub of civic life reflects the city’s commitment to both progress and legacy,” Michael Allen, AIA, CEO/Architect, MOA Architecture. “Our team is proud to help design a facility that strengthens downtown and serves the community for generations to come."

“Today marks a proud moment for Orangeburg and for our team at Mashburn Construction. Being part of a project that not only reinvests in the heart of downtown but also strengthens the city’s foundation for future generations is deeply meaningful,” said Lee Mashburn, president, Mashburn Construction. “We’re honored to have partnered with the City of Orangeburg to bring this important civic space to life.”

Following the ribbon cutting, attendees will have the opportunity to tour the facility and meet with city leaders to learn more about the services available at the new location.

“The City of Orangeburg is committed to ensuring that all citizens have easy access to government services, and this new building is a reflection of that promise,” said Sidney Evering,II, city administrator. “As an Orangeburg native with a true love and passion for the growth of my hometown, I am confident that the new City Hall will not only improve the efficiency of local government but will also serve as a space where residents and visitors can connect, collaborate and participate in the growth of the city. It should also be noted, this successful renovation project will serve as a catalyst for future development and a reflection of the city’s commitment to the revitalization of its downtown.”
