The Echo Theater in downtown Laurens, South Carolina, has a troubled past. It was once a segregated movie theater. Later, it housed “The Redneck Shop” which was advertised as the “world famous Ku Klux Klan museum.” The movie “Burden” tells the story of how the theater came to be owned by David and Janice Kennedy of New Beginnings Missionary Baptist Church. We are helping the Kennedys turn the building into a community center that celebrates diversity.
