International Longshoremen’s Association Local 1422-A
The International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) is the largest union of maritime workers in North America, representing more than 65,000 longshoremen across the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts, the Great Lakes, major U.S. rivers, Puerto Rico, Eastern Canada, and the Bahamas. MOA Architecture is honored to partner with ILA Local 1422-A to design and deliver their new headquarters and training facility in Charleston, South Carolina—a city whose port operations are vital to the region’s economy.
Spanning 20,590 square feet, the facility is purpose-built to support the union’s operational, administrative, and training needs. The design features modern office spaces, state-of-the-art training rooms, and functional loading docks to replicate real-world maritime operations. By combining administrative functions with hands-on training capacity, the new headquarters will enhance the Local’s ability to serve its members and strengthen the skills of the next generation of maritime professionals.
MOA Architecture is providing full architectural, engineering, and construction administration services, ensuring that every element of the project—from concept to completion—supports the ILA’s mission and long-standing tradition of excellence in maritime work.
